Or if you can find a 5150 cab or mesa recto cab for cheap they would probably do well also. I would talk the person down a bit and save a little more for the cab. If you're lucky you can get one for $275. I would look around for a Marshall 2x12 w/ nicer speakers. But yeah, overrall a solid amp for something changing from an MG.ĮDIT:Also the AVT cab isn't really all that great. I am definitely guilty of being a bit of an elitist w/ tube amps over ss, but i really couldn't complain about too much with it. The clean channel is excellent as well considering it's like 95% solid state Put the treble to 9, and adjust the mids however you like it, sounds pretty good. I just wouldn't really suggest turning the bass bast 6, ever. Until you can afford a good amp, this will do very well. This is a good step forward from an MG in my honest opinion. Only money I put into it was a new tube(which brightened it up alot(in a good way)) Never had any real problems with it except that the fan makes some noise when you first turn it on, but once the tube warms up it should go away. Then again, I bought it from someone I knew who was desperate for money for $100. I sold my AVT50 combo for $225 about 3 months ago. IMO better than the Peavey Vypyr Tube, the Peavey Windsor(which is all tube), etc. Boost it with a Tubescreamer and it will sound pretty decent. Switch the single 12ax7 for a JJ 12ax7 or a Sovtek 12ax7lps. The AVT will sound much better than an MG or the older Valvestates.
